W2SB Challenge #12: Eat, Drink, and Be Merry!

Hi, everyone. Bobbi here.

Holiday traditions seem to revolve around food and drink.  Easter has eggs and lamb; the Fourth of July, hotdogs and hamburgers; Thanksgiving, turkey and dressing. The list goes on and on and on.

But December - oooh, the month of December is in a league of its own.  There are so many opportunities to indulge: office parties, book club luncheons, neighborhood potlucks, family dinners, and nights out on the town. There's a whole month of reasons to eat, drink, and be merry!

Your challenge is to create a card or project that represents this month-long season of eating, drinking, and merry making!

Our I-Team has some great inspiration for you.

First up is our October challenge winner, Shell. What a fabulous card -- cute paper, perfect ribbon and embellishments, and an adorable image! Looks like her little critter has had about all the celebrating he can take. Thanks so much, Shell, for joining us this month.

Shell

Annie, who was our hostess in November, always has a fun approach. This month is no exception! Can't help but smile at a Santa wearing shades.  :)

Annie

Penny's card is soooo festive! And, don't you just love her foreshadowing of the January dieting that is sure to come?

Penny

Sybrina's card serves up treats for Santa and Rudolph, while bringing back memories of her mom's homemade cookies.

Sybrina

And, as for my card, good friends and good wine make any season special!!

Our December Prize Package

In addition to joining us as a Guest I-Teamer in February, our winner will receive our W2SB badge and several My Favorite Things stamp sets. Can't think of a better way to ring in the new year than inking up some new stamps.  :)

We loved all the texture and dimension Greta incorporated while achieving such a tranquil, CAS feel. Congratulations, Greta! Be on the lookout for an-mail from us.

Our thanks to everyone who played along with our November challenge. This month's entries were so very pretty.

So, what will December bring? Our Hint: It involves a few of our favorite holiday activities.  :)

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving celebration! See you in December.

W2SB Challenge #11: Gratitude & Kindness

Welcome to another inspired challenge at Words 2 Scrap By!  This is Annie and I'm honored to be the Guest Host for Bobbi & Sybrina this month.  Big shoes to fill but I'm going to try!

With November, our thoughts turn to Thanksgiving and being grateful for our many blessings.  At W2SB, we believe that gratitude and kindness can be expressed at any time throughout the year and offer the following quote for this month's inspiration:

You cannot do a kindness too soon because
you never know how soon it will be too late.

Let's take a look at what the I-Teamers came up with to get your mojo moving.

First up is our guest I-Teamer this month, Julia, who wowed us in August with her winning design and she has done it again with this beautiful card.  Love that dreamy tree and the soft colors!

What an awesome background to complement Sybrina's Gratitude bronze embossed medallion!

What better way to say thanks and show kindness by telling someone they are awesome!  Penny's card is a wonderful CAS design with strong graphic elements - love those "awesome" circles!

Bobbi's card is so peaceful and serene.  That landscape is fantastic and the sentiment is absolutely perfect!

I put on the spritz for my card going for a masculine feel with this Thank You card for a special friend.

Oh, did someone say PRIZE?  Yep, we did!  In addition to being the Guest I-Teamer in January and being awarded the winner badge for your blog...there's this fantastic Mini Blueprints stamp set by Tim Holtz that will be mailed to the challenge winner!  Think of all the cards you can make with eight stamps in one set!

Mini Blueprints

Now it's your turn!  Link up a card expressing gratitude or showing kindness to someone special.  Your entry does not have to have a seasonal theme.  We can't wait to see what you create!

W2SB Challenge #10: Paved with Paw Prints

Hi, everyone!

Can you believe it's October already? Wow!

Naturally, October brings thoughts of jack-o-lanterns, ghosts, ... and paw prints. That's right, paw prints. Turns out October is also adopt-a-shelter-dog month!

Doggies have a special place in the hearts of all us I-Teamers: Bobbi's household has two dogs and one cat, all of whom were in need of a good home; Penny's and Annie's blogs both include photos of their dogs; Mary Anne is mom to Simon, Frankie, and Goober; mixed-breed, former-shelter-dog Miles rules the roost at our place; and Guest I-Teamer's household is currently home to two cats.

So, our October words are, "The road to my heart is paved with paw prints." I wish I knew who first uttered/penned these words. An Internet search showed that they can be found on posters, coffee mugs, and what not. Whether your furry friend is a dog, cat, hamster, or rabbit, we hope you will be inspired by this month's words.

Let's see what our I-Teamers have created this month:

Our Guest I-Teamer this month is the talented Erika from Scrappin' Intervention.   She certainly chose the purr-fect sentiment for her featured cat. And, that ribbon is perfect with her patterned papers.  :)

Erika

Annie's design is fabulous and her coloring is so well done! Need to find out where she got that cute little "woof, woof" embellishment

Annie

Love Bobbi's paper choices -- and her embossed pattern paper! This card is sure to bring comfort to a friend who has lost a four-legged member of their family.

Bobbi

What a great card to welcome the newest family member! Don't you just love the playfulness of the pup on Mary Anne's card? Something tells me this might be a Goober-inspired design.

Mary Anne

Penny's cards always have the best sentiments... This one makes my heart smile. And, who else but Penny would use inverted hearts in their paw prints?!

Penny

I made the birthday card below for a nephew who loves our little doggie. It was inspired by a dog property laws T-shirt. The laws basically come down to one word -- "Mine!" As the card shows, almost anything in our house is the property of our pup -- except for the piece of birthday cake shown on the card's interior. :)

Our Prize Package

Our October Prize:
Artwork by Sandy Allnock!
In addition to being invited to be a Guest I-Teamer for our December challenge and receiving a challenge winner badge, we are thrilled to be able to offer another amazing prize this month.

Sandy Allnock is the Founder and Executive Director of the wonderful non-profit organization Operation Write Home. Here at W2SB, we are prous to call Sandy friend.

We have two of Sandy's Ciara and Friend stamp sets to award to the winner. In addition, Sandy, who is an AMAZING Copic colorer, is providing us with pre-colored Ciara and Friends images. WOW!!!! If only us I-Teamers could win! Thank you so very much, Sandy!

Now it's your turn! Link up a card inspired by the dog/cat/hamster/gerbil/rabbit/what-am-I-forgetting-pet whose paw prints lead directly to your heart.  :)

And the Tim Holtz clock goes to....

Julia Aston!

Our thanks to all who participated in this month's challenge. The entries were fabulous! In the end, Julia's multi-media, Distress-Inked card won our hearts.

Julia's winning entry!

Julia, please e-mail me at cards[dot]by[dot]sybrina[at]gmail[dot]com to make prize arrangements.

Bobbi and I are really excited about what we have planned for October. Thinking ghosts and jack-o-lanterns? Not quite what we have in mind. Hope you will all be able to join us next month. :)

W2SB #9: To Every Thing There Is a Season

Hi, everyone.

As the calendar page turns to September, our thoughts turn to the words To Every Thing There Is a Season.

So, what do these words mean to you? Maybe your thoughts turn to autumn leaves... or football Saturdays... or homework and school activities... or the they're-going-to-be-here-before-you-know-it upcoming holiday season. Or, perhaps milestone events come to mind -- events like starting a new job, celebrating the birth of a baby, or moving to a new house.

This month, we welcome Guest I-Teamer Sharyn, who wowed us in July with her bicycle-riding poodle. Let's see what Sharyn and our I-Teamers have for us this month.

Sharyn's card is just lovely. Her image, colors, and text combine to create such a peaceful interpretation of our seasons theme. Sharon, we are thrilled that you joined us this month.

Sharyn

Penny has created another masterpiece with her stunning focal point. And, her sentiment is perfect for this month's theme.

Penny

Annie's card is just gorgeous. Those richly colored leaves are placed just right to give the feel of leaves falling to the ground... and lead our eyes to a perfect seasonal sentiment.

Annie

While I just love the color choices Mary Anne made, I simply adore the banner hanging down from that pretty wreath. Mary Anne doesn't have a  blog, so feel free to leave a comment for her here.

Mary Anne

Bobbi continued the fall theme with her card featuring four different embossing powders, and pretty layering. Love the classic look she achieved with those embossing powders!

Bobbi

But, from the look of things, Bernadette can't wait for the upcoming Christmas season. I just love the richness of these colors and the way she inset her sentiment panel.  :)

Bernadette

As for my card, I took a totally different take on a four-season theme to make a Stampin'-Up!-inspired thank you card for our very own Bernadette. Bernadette has been the SU demonstrator of our little card-making group. Our bittersweet news last class was that she is moving back to Colorado. Bernadette is thrilled to be moving back to be with family, but we are going to miss her terribly.

Me

The Prize Package

In addition to a  Guest I-Teamer invitation for November and our W2SB badge, this month's winning crafter will receive a FABULOUS prize: an autographed Tim Holtz assemblage clock, like the one shown at the right. But, unlike the clock shown, ours was autographed for us by Tim at the Simon Says Stamps CREATE event in May!

What a fun object to keep, fill, display, and treasure -- or give as a special gift to a loved one who is a self-proclaimed Tim groupie. :)

So, we hope you all will be able to join us for this month's W2SB challenge.

W2SB Challenge #8: From Darkness to Light - Winner!!!

There were some great cards for this challenge.  Sybrina and I really enjoyed seeing all of the interpretations.  It was a tough call for us this month, but we just couldn't resist Erika's interpretation of our challenge paired with her take on a Kristina Werner card.

Erika's Darkness to Light

Erika's card kind of reminds me of how the big bang might have looked.  (Plus, The Big Bang Theory is my all time favorite TV show!!!)  The inking on this card is fabulous, and I love the contrast between the black and yellow.  That combination is tough to pull off without looking like a bumble bee.

Sybrina is our hostess for the September challenge, and has a FABULOUS prize - a SIGNED Tim Holtz goodie!  Boo, I can't enter....

Erika, please send your snail mail address to BobbisTreasure at aol dot com, so I can mail your prize!!  Plus, we hope that you will be our guest designer for October.  Congratulations, Erika!!!

W2SB Challenge #8: From Darkness to Light

EEK!  I thought that summer just started, and here it is back to school time already!!!  Both of your W2SB hostesses are professionals in education and training.  Sybrina is a former high school math who now works on educational publications. I work in training, and substitute teach in our local schools.

So, the words of Allan Bloom are a perfect choice for this month's inspiration: "Education is the movement from darkness to light."

I love all the directions you can go with these words: light to dark, evoking the ombre technique; contrast; the Sun; a light bulb, etc.  Let's see what our I-Team came up with for you!!

Kate from Katos Crafty Creations is our guest I-Teamer this month.  Don't you love how she highlighted the image with her die cut?!?

Kate - Guest I-Teamer

Penny made a great card for a teenager.  The "random" pink bling is perfectly placed!

Penny

Beautiful color wash, Sybrina!

Sybrina

Ann's card has me singing ZZTop!

Ann

Bernadette wanted to show her support for the teachers in her kids' school district as the 2014-2015 school year begins. Love that fabulous ribbon treatment!

Bernadette

And here is my contribution, featuring paint chips arranged in an ombre pattern.

Et la gagnante est ..

... Sharyn! Her little bike-riding poodle was so adorable, we couldn't help but say "Oh La La!"

Sharyn, please e-mail us at words2scrapby@gmail.com or me at cards.by.sybrina@gmail.com to learn the details of your prize package.

So, what does Bobbi have for us next month? Hmmm.... August brings family road trips, state fairs, and the start of school.  Wonder which of these she will choose?

W2SB Challenge #7: Oh La La

Hi, everyone.

Can you believe it's already July?! July often brings to mind fireworks, parades, and picnics.

So, what words will we use for this month's inspiration? We've actually decided to go with the interjection "Oh La La" -- in honor of Bastille Day, of course!

Interestingly enough, Oh La La is usually spoken in France to express surprise, distress, annoyance, disappointment or displeasure. The phrase actually means oh dear, oh my, or oh no, and isn't typically used to talk about something risqué. And, it's not unusual for a speaker to utter more than two Las when caught up in the emotion of a moment.  :)

This month, we are pleased to welcome CG as our Guest I-Teamer who amazed us with her winning Bloom Where You Are Planted card. Welcome, CG!

Let's see what our gals have for you this month... starting with Guest I-Teamer CG. CG's card is so spectacular that one photo simply doesn't do it justice!

CG

Penny's little girl is ready for a huge celebration on either side of the pond. The sparkling fireworks and sentiment set such a festive tone!

Penny

Annie's Mimi is right at home sipping coffee in a French café. Love Annie's paper selections and coloring!
Annie

Bernadette chose a love-inspired, romantic interpretation for her fun wedding card. She's made a card her nephew and his bride are sure to cherish!

Bernadette

Bobbi went Parisian all the way with her interpretation. And, she always adds such interesting texture to her cards!

As for me, I just had to make a pair of paper-pieced French love birds with my new Stampin' Up! owl punch for this one. The inside of the card has a little play on this month's "words".  :)

Me

We can't wait to see what you do with this interjection!   In addition to a badge and guest I-Teamer invite, a few Tim Holtz-Parisian-inspired goodies will be awarded to this month's winner.  :)
