W2SB Challenge #5: Bloom Where You Are Planted

Hi, everyone!

Thanks to Bobbi for a fun April challenge. What's not to like about diamonds?!

And, thanks to everyone who played along this past month. Congrats to Carol L who will join us as a Guest I-Teamer in June. Carol's lovely card had just the right amount of bling.  :)

Our Newest I-Teamer

Starting this month, we are thrilled to announce that Annie has joined our I-Team on a full-time basis. You may remember her Olympic-winning card in February and her guest-I-Team diamond card last month.

Welcome, Annie! We can't wait to see what you have in store for our future challenges.  :)

This Month's Challenge

Now onto the merry month of May, and signs of spring are everywhere! Birds are chirping, lawn mowers are revving up... and, yes, trees and flowers are blooming! What better words to capture the beauty of this magical season than Bloom Where You Are Planted?

In addition to typical thoughts of spring, this phrase always reminds me of my dear friend Teresa. Years ago, when I was teaching, Teresa was a stay-at-home mom -- of two little boys. During that time, Teresa was the Martha Stewart in my life: baking cookies for birthday celebrations, knitting scarves for Christmas gifts, sending cards to commemorate special occasions. One day at Teresa's house, I noticed a plaque in the kitchen bearing the phrase Bloom Where You're Planted. When I asked her why that phrase, she wistfully talked about letting go of dreams of making Laura Ashley dresses for a daughter and filling her days with conversations about Bob the Builder and Thomas the Tank Engine. Teresa sure did bloom where she was planted because her two boys have grown to be two remarkable young men.

The Prize Package

This month's challenge winner will be invited to be a Guest I-Teamer in July and receive a W2SB challenge-winner badge.

In addition, the winning card maker will receive a $10 Stampin' Up! gift certificate courtesy of our very own Bernadette! Thank you, Bernadette!

This month, we welcome March-challenge-winner Linda as our Guest I-Teamer.

Carol is April's Shining Diamond!!

It was a tough choice this month!  Carol from OurLittleInspirations.blogspot.com is our winner!!!

Here is her card:

I love this card.  Her contrast between the white and Razzleberry is so crisp, and the white embossing is just beautiful.  Add bling to the centers, and it is a beautiful card!  Did you notice that the centers are proportioned to the flowers?  Great job, Carol!  Email your address to BobbisTreasure at aol dot com so I can send your prize!

W2SB Challenge #4 - Shine Bright Like A Diamond

April is one of my favorite months of the year.  What's not to love? April means spring is finally here, Easter is close, and at my house - Birthdays!!!  My son has an April Fool's Day birthday, and mine is later in the month.  Throw in nieces and nephews, and the month becomes one big birthday party!!

I am sure you are wondering - where is she going with this?!?!?  The April birthstone is a diamond. Pop singer Rhianna sings the song "Shine Bright Like A Diamond," about how we are ALL diamonds, bright and beautiful, coming in many shapes and sizes.  If you want to hear the song or read the lyrics, click HERE.  Shine bright like a diamond, we're beautiful like diamonds in the sky!!

Ann from Pawsitive Thoughts by Annie was our winner of the February Olympics/Colours of Our World Challenge, so she is our Guest I-Teamer for April!  Here is her wonderfully detailed sample:

W2SB Challenge #3: And the Oscar Goes to....

Hi, everyone!

Welcome back! It's hard to imagine that two months have passed since our debut post. And, boy have you all wowed us with some fabulous song- and Olympic-inspired cards.

My thanks to Bobbi for such a colourful, Olympic-sized challenge for February, and to Peggy for her Guest I-Team appearance. Last but not least, congrats to Annie for winning last month's challenge!   :)

So, what's the inspiration for this month? Looks like it's time to pop in a DVD, munch on some popcorn, and enjoy a favorite movie or two. After all, the Oscar ceremony is tomorrow night!

This Month's Challenge

In honor of tomorrow's Oscar ceremony, this month's inspiration comes in the form of quotes from a few favorite movies.
  • There's no place like home. (The Wizard of Oz, 1939)
  • The stuff that dreams are made of. (The Maltese Falcon, 1941)
  • Here's looking at you, kid. (Casablanca, 1942)
  • May the force be with you. (Star Wars, 1977)
Your challenge is to make a card inspired by one of the 4 quotes listed above. Entries must be linked by March 21. And, entry guidelines can be found on our Rules of the Road page.

This Month's Prize

We are thrilled to announce that this month's prize is sponsored by Bonnie from Really Reasonable Ribbon. The challenge winner will receive a $20 gift certificate to this wonderful company.

I fell in love with these ribbons when searching for just the right ribbon for some Christmas cards. I am now a subscriber to the monthly Ribbon Club -- and am always wowed by the yummy variety of ribbons that Bonnie offers. And, you'll see one of Bonnie's ribbons on my sample card.

Thanks so much, Bonnie, for sponsoring this month's prize. We really appreciate your support and LOVE your company!

This Month's Sample Cards

We are thrilled to welcome this month's sponsor and our January challenge winner as Guest I-Teamers. Bonnie's and Kathy's cards are shown below, along with the cards of our I-Team.

Bernadette
I am in love with this little paper-pieced R2D2!
What an adorable card for a little guy -- or a big guy who loves Sci Fi!

Bobbi
Looks like I'm not the only one in love with this Bo Bunny Liberty collection. :)
And, Bobbi's done a great job pairing these two patterns.
This would make for the perfect Any Hero card for Operation Write Home!

Guest I-Teamer Bonnie
Not only is Bonnie sponsoring this month's prize, but she's joining us as an I-Teamer.
Bonnie's card is so rich and lush -- and yet has such a nice CAS-feel to it.
Love its shape, palette, and patterned papers.... and those gorgeous RRR ribbons!

January Challenge Winner Kathy T
Kathy's created another wonderful fold card.
Don't you just love how she's framed this adorable house?
Be sure to check out Kathy's blog to learn more about
the craftsmanship behind this work of heart.

Mary Anne
Mary Anne has created the cutest new home card for a friend at work.
The scalloped roof, patterned-paper curtains, and candy dot door knob
are pieced together perfectly to make the sweetest little house.
Mary Anne doesn't have a blog. So, feel free to leave her some love below.

Penny
Isn't Penny's trip down the yellow-brick road a real show stopper?
From her amazing background to the glittery gold and ruby red elements,
Penny's certainly captured the world of Oz!

Lastly, for my card. Bobbi and I both make cards for the wonderful organization Operation Write Home. So, I took the quote, "Here's Looking at You, Kid" in a different direction to make a kiddie card to send to OWH.

Sybrina
I actually chose the papers for this card to complement one of Bonnie's RRR ribbons.
This yummy ribbon came in one of the monthly ribbon assortment.
(Just wish the picture would've captured the colors more accurately!)

Your Turn

And, now it's your turn to wow us with a movie-theme-inspired card. Which of the four quotes will you choose? Right now, "There's No Place Like Home" is ahead in the count.  :)

Colours of our World Challenge Winner!!!

Hi, everyone!

Thank you to all who linked a card for this month's challenge - Colours of Our World.  We also want to offer our sincerest thanks to Peggy of PegBoard Crafts for joining us as a Guest I-Teamer for this challenge.  Peggy designed our badge and blog header.  Thank you, Peggy!!!

All of the cards were great and in keeping with the challenge theme.  Choosing the winning entry this month was really difficult!

After much deliberation, the card from Pawsitive Thoughts by Annie was chosen.   Her beautiful card was a great representation of the Colours of the World challenge.  She included all of the colors of the Olympic flag, her sentiment really works well with her fireworks background, and the jewels add great texture and interest.  Great job, Annie!!!

Please email BobbisTreasure at aol dot com to make arrangements for: receiving your stamp set, getting your W2SB badge, and learning more about being a Guest I-Teamer.  Annie, we would love for you to be the guest I-Teamer for April!

Sybrina has a great March challenge ready for us for W2SB #3 . Thinking green, St. Patricks, Mardi Gras?  Nope, not this March.

Thanks again for joining us for W2SB #2 - Colours of the World.  Hope to see you all next month!

W2SB Challenge #2 - The Colours of the World

Thanks, Sybrina, for issuing a great, first Words 2 Scrap By Challenge.  Now it is my turn!

I love watching the Olympics.  The parade of nations during the opening and closing ceremonies is so moving and awe inspiring to me. I get a little choked up when I see the flags from the different countries, and of course, the Olympic flag flying over all of the others.

The founder of the Modern Olympics, Pierre de Coubertin, said this about the Olympic flag:

"The Olympic flag has a white background, with five interlaced rings in the centre: blue, yellow, black, green and red. This design is symbolic; it represents the five continents of the world, united by Olympism, while the six colours are those that appear on all the national flags of the world at the present time.

The games bring people from around the world together for camaraderie and competition.

Our February Challenge is to create a card that celebrates the XXII Olympic games in Sochi, Russia.  Extra kudos if you use all of the colors on the flag!

This month's prize package is from me!  A Bubble Bunny stamp set from My Favorite Things.

The cards below were made by our founding Inspiration Team: Bernadette, Mary Anne, Penny, Bobbi, and me. In addition, we are thrilled to have Peggy from PegBoard Crafts as our guest I-Teamer this month.  Peggy designed the graphics for Words @ Scrap By!!!  Thanks so much, Peggy, for all of your support!!!

Peggy
I just LOVE how Peggy wove the background from paper strips.
The athletes are fulfilling their dreams of participating in the Olympics!!

Bernadette
Love how her flags echo the Olympic flag!!

Mary Anne
What a cheery card!  Her balloons are a perfect representation of the Olympic Rings!

Penny
What a fun combination of patterns that include the colors of the Olympic rings!

Sybrina
Check out the background she created using a spatter technique!!!

Bobbi
The "scribbles" were created using Derwent watercolors pencils.

So, now it's you turn!!  hanks for joining us for this month's challenge!
