W2SB #24: Twas the Night Before Christmas...

Hi, everyone! Sybrina here, welcoming you to our December challenge. For those of you still working on some last minute Christmas cards/gifts, we might just have the perfect challenge for you.

This month's words of inspiration come from A Visit from St. Nicholas, the beloved Clement Clarke Moore poem. You know the one -- the one with stockings hung by the chimney and visions of sugarplums dancing in children's heads. Chances are you even have a copy of this somewhere in your home.  :)

Our challenge is to make a card or project, using any line(s) from this holiday classic as the inspiration for your work of heart.

Let's see how the W2SB I-Team has interpreted this challenge.

We are thrilled to have Becca as our Guest I-Teamer this month. Her take on stirring creatures is adorable... and I just love those pretty holly leaves! Thanks so much, Becca, for joining us for our December W2SB challenge. We are so glad you did.   :)
Becca

These sweet stockings are some of the cutest little stockings I've ever seen! And, I just love the multiple ways Annie used her ribbon.

Annie

Penny's card is absolutely gorgeous! Her trees, snow banks, effervescent moon, and snow spatters create a scene of peace and serenity that is simply stunning.
Penny

What's that saying about great minds? Looks like Bobbi and Annie had the same clever idea to hang those stockings. And don't you just love Bobbi's take on the traditional red and green palette?!

Bobbi

Greta's card conjures up a perfect location to take a long winter's nap! The font on Greta's sentiment strip is just perfect for this pretty card.

Greta

I used pops of colors against a monochromatic background to feature two kitties eyeing their stockings... while visions of catnip dance in their heads.
Sybrina

In addition to a Guest I-Teamer invitation and our W2SB Winner's Badge, the winning crafter will receive a $10 gift certificate to My Favorite Things. What a great way to start a new year!

W2SB #23: Changing the Face of Men's Health

Hi, everyone! Sybrina here welcoming you to Movember (formerly known as November)  -- the hairiest month of the year.   :)

It turns out that what's good for the goose really is good for the gander. Just as October has become the month to promote breast cancer awareness, November has become the month to bring awareness to men's health issues, such as prostate and testicular cancers.

So, let's see how the gals have interpreted this month's words: Changing the Face of Men's Health.

First up is Kristie, our November Guest I-Teamer. Not sure which I love more: that amazing background or adorable sentiment strip! Thanks so much for joining us the month, Kristie! We're so glad you did.  :)

Kristie

Annie's fun card -- with those clever two-lane side borders -- accentuates the "move" in Movember.  MOVE is a 30-day fitness challenge designed to combat physical inactivity. No MOVE is too big or small.
Annie

Greta's sweet card also highlights the "move" in Movember. I just love how Greta's border complements her little bear's wardrobe -- as well as framing this adorable scene.
Greta

Just sayin' Penny's card is adorable, and I love her color choices and funky embellishments.
Penny

Don't you just love that colorful designer paper and fun mustache embellishment Bobbi used on her card?! And, Bobbi's cards always have lots of texture.
Bobbi

As for my card, I couldn't resist the temptation to add a bit of irreverence to this oh-so-serious photo. This card will be going to a former work colleague, along with a donation to this cause that is near and dear to Tom's heart.
Sybrina

So, how will you interpret our November words? We can't wait to see. And, a $10 gift certificate to Simon Says Stamp will go to the winner of our Changing-the-Face-of-Men's-Health Challenge!

And the Winner is...

... Becca for the fabulous card shown below. We just couldn't resist that show-stopping pink dress!

Becca

Becca, congrats on a well-deserved win. Please e-mail me at cards.by.sybrina@gmail.com for prize details.  :)

And, a huge thanks to everyone who played along with our Fight-Like-a-Girl Challenge. Hope you'll stop by to see what we have in mind for the guys in our lives next month.

W2SB #22 Fight Like A Girl!!!

Happy October and Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Penny Ward here today.  I am super excited to be hosting this month's challenge as it deals with Breast Cancer which most of you know I endured a short time ago.
I recently passed my one year anniversary as a Survivor and there is no better feeling!!!

Breast Cancer can happen to anyone...there does not need to be a history of it in your family.
1 in 8 women (and a few unfortunate men) will develop Breast Cancer.
SCARY!!!!

So we at Words 2 Scrap By want to get the word out there in a fun way, by having a Breast Cancer Awareness theme this month.

Below are the creations made by the Fantabulous I-Team to get your Pink mojo rolling:

Starting our inspiration today is Guest Designer Carol. Her beautiful butterfly is so unique with the Pink ribbon as the body. Elegant sentiment and great use of the layout.
Superb!!!!

Carol

How adorable is the sentiment Bobbi chose to compliment her Pink bras?
And that ribbon!!!!
(I will be CASing that technique on a card real soon)

Bobbi

What a wonderful Pink ribbon background Annie has made on her card and so loving the sentiment.
YES, we can find a cure!

This beautiful background is a watercolor wash that just gives Sybrina's creation a little something, something!
Her unique use of the Pink ribbon in place of the letter "i" is brilliant!

Sybrina

Look at all that gorgeous embossed Pink!
Greta has created a beautiful feminine card and added a really important sentiment....for all of us!

I love the soft Pink letterpress look with the vibrant butterfly.
The sentiment in Black has a powerful message.

We hope you play along...prizes are involved...just sayin'.

How about a set of Radiant Neon Electric Purple (you would think it would be Pink) ink pad, irRESISTible Neon Purple Spray and irRESISTible Pico Purple embellisher?
My very sweet friends at Imagine Crafts featuring Tsukineko have provided the prize this month.

And before I let you get to crafting....

Make a card, play along for your chance to win. Then if you don't personally know someone with Breast Cancer, take your card to your local Oncology center and ask that the card go to their newest Breast Cancer patient.
She/he will love it and you will feel good about making someones day!

W2SB #21 - Ahoy, Matey!!

Ahoy W2SB friends!  Annie here to host W2SB's September Challenge - Ahoy Matey!  Did you know that September 19 is International Talk Like a Pirate Day?  In honor of this fabulous day of fun, you can make a card/project inspired by one of the following pirate expressions:
  • Ahoy, Matey!
  • Arrrr!
  • Blimey!
  • Yo Ho Ho!
Or, use anything piratey (I think I just made up a word). Things like parrots, ships, treasure, a bottle of rum, Johnny Depp...LOL!  I had to throw him in there!

Let's see what our fab I-Team has come up with to inspire you:

Our first Guest I-Teamer this month is Andrea.  She was our July winner in the Chocolate challenge, wowing us with her yummy box of chocolates.  Check out her awesome pirate ship on those wonderful ocean waves!  Thanks for joining us this month, Andrea!

Our second Guest I-Teamer is a good friend of W2SB.  Peggy designed our badge and banner AND her birthday is on Talk Like a Pirate Day!  Check out all the fun fabric details of this gorgeous pirate on her blog and stop by to leave her some birthday love!  Happy Birthday, Peggy!

Bobbi also went with a ship theme for inspiration that she framed with a perfect porthole and richly embossed wood background.
Bobbi

Sybrina created this super cute anniversary card for her hubby following the pirate theme.  You need to stop by and see what she said inside the card!  She's one creative crafter!

Penny's card is a treasure with it's beautiful sentiment as the focal point.  Love the distressed edges and map-like look!
Penny

Look at the gorgeous stormy scene that Greta created for this challenge.  The blue color palette is stunning against that embossed background.

And, lastly,  I went with Doodle Pantry's pirate birdie and pirate ship for a fun kid's card.  Pirates CAN be cute :-)
I'm sure you have heard the saying:  "Work like a Captain, Play like a Pirate."  Now go play and just maybe you will find some buried treasure.  Kim from Paper Smooches added the super cute stamp set, Ahoy Me Hearty, to W2SB's Treasure Chest this month!  Who wouldn't love to win that?  Arrrr!

Here's the link, mateys.

A Homer of an Entry!

Congratulations to Carol L for winning our "Calling All Book Lovers" challenge with the adorable card shown below.

Carol's card was inspired by Glenn Wilson's inspiration book entitled Headed Home. There were so many details about this card that we loved, especially those specific to her chosen book.

Thanks to everyone who played along with our August challenge. We hope all you mateys will join us for our next challenge, which will post on September 1.   :)

W2SB #20 - Calling All Book Lovers!!!

Bobbi here to host the August W2SB Challenge. And, for this challenge, we are calling all book lovers!

August 9 is Book Lovers Day, followed by the first day of school -- at least for our school district -- on August 13.  In honor of our love for books and learning, our challenge to you is create a project based on a title or quotation from a book.  Here are a few ideas, or choose one of your favorites:
  • Where the Wild Things Are
  • The Good Earth
  • Eat, Pray, Love
  • Winnie-the-Pooh
  • Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus

We tried to choose a collection of books that would appeal to a wide range of themes, situations, and/or interests. If there's another book that sparks your creativity, by all means go with it.

Our Inspiration Gallery

Let's see what our I-Team has made this month, starting with this month's Guest I-Teamer Mona. Thanks so much, Mona, for joining us. We're thrilled that you accepted our invitation!

Mona chose The Good Earth as the inspiration for her card. She was inspired by the beauty that surrounded her while on vacation to create several lovely paintings, including the one shown below. Love these gorgeous flowers! Think this is the first painting we've showcased here at W2SB... and think I could find a perfect place to showcase it in my home.  :)
Mona

Since Annie has an adorable five-year-old grandson, she immediately jumped at the opportunity to make this bee-utiful Winnie-the-Pooh card. And, Annie's grandson gave her a big thumb's up saying this was a "nice 'baby' card".   :)
Annie

Greta chose a specific quote from The Good Earth, and added some amazing paper piecing. Love this soothing palette and stunning flower. What an absolutely stunning card!
Greta

Penny took a slightly different take on our challenge, showcasing a few favorite titles on her card's back bookshelf and using a darling book-related sentiment. If you look closely, you'll see one of her chosen titles was the inspiration for our June 2014 challenge.  :)
Penny

Sybrina used Max's famous Wild Things quote as the inspiration for her sentiment inside this monstrously cute birthday card. If you click on the link below the card, it'll take you to Sybrina's new post-OWH blog.
Sybrina

Because I can never follow the crowd, I chose a quote from my favorite book, Outlander, and my favorite fictional person, Jamie Fraser.  Jamie said to his love, "When the day shall come that we do part, if my last words are not I Love You, ye’ll ken it was because I dinna have time."
Bobbi

You have until August 28 to link up to our challenge.  We can't wait to see your literary-inspired cards and projects!

And, one talented crafter will receive our prize package, which includes the adorable stamp set shown at the right.  :)

Thanks so much to all who linked up entries for our July challenge. Wonder what Bobbi has in store for us next month? Hmmm... Any book lovers out there?

W2SB #19: A Friend with Chocolate

Hi, everyone! Sybrina here, bringing you our July Words 2 Scrap By challenge.

But, before we get to this month's challenge, all of us at W2SB would like to extend a HUGE thanks to everyone who played along with last month's It's a Man's World challenge! Annie offered up a great challenge, and we loved seeing all your creative interpretations.  :)

W2SB #19: A Friend with Chocolate

Did you know that July 7 is National Chocolate Day?! I don't know about you, but when I think of chocolate, I often think of enjoying it with friends. I have memories of eating chocolate chip cookies with Teresa, sharing a chocolate candy bar with Susan, taking a photograph of a divinely decadent chocolate dessert on a trip with Linda.... Get the idea that this list could get rather lengthy?

So, our inspiration words for this month are All You Need in Life is a Friend with Chocolate. Let's see how our I-Teamers have interpreted these delightful words. This month, we are pleased to welcome Carol as our Guest I-Teamer. Thanks so much for joining us, Carol!

Our Inspiration Gallery

Carol's little mouse just couldn't be any cuter, and her pink and brown palette is a great choice!
Carol

Annie's sparkly cone looks good enough to eat.  Mmmmm, indeed!
Annie

Greta's sentiment is perfect for our challenge! And, that yellow ribbon is a delightful touch.

Greta

Penny's done it again with another gorgeous card! Don't you just love that pretty oval against that tone-on-tone scallop?!
Penny

Looks like Bobbi's got cupcakes on her mind by the looks of this cute card! I love the way she used that button and twine with her birthday sentiment. As always, I love all the textures that Bobbi uses on her cards.
Bobbi

As for me, I was so excited to find a use for a new bow punch and three long-forgotten-about tart embellishments.  :)
Sybrina

Hmmm... Wonder what prize is up for grabs this month? Well, Annie offered $20 to Simon Says Stamp during her birthday month. And, since July is my birthday month, it seems only fitting that I do the same thing. Right?!

Yep, one talented crafter will receive a $20 SSS gift certificate, an invitation to join us as a Guest I-Teamer, and our W2SB Winner's Badge!

So, how will you interpret our July words? Can't wait to see your chocolate-y creations!  :)
